This week we had our topping out ceremony for Oak Creek Travel Center! What is a "topping out" ceremony, you might ask? The topping out ceremony is a way to honor a construction team's hard labor. This milestone is marked by raising the final beam, decorated with a symbolic evergreen tree and an American flag. Before the beam was raised into place, our tribal members and construction workers were given the opportunity to sign the beam with a permanent marker. This final beam will eventually be covered by drywall, stucco and other construction materials, but the names and legacy will continue on forever.
